KS2 Trip to Callow Rock Quarry
Key Stage Two

After an unplanned delay to the day, KS2 got up close and personal with some incredible machinery at Callow Rock Quarry in Shipham. The visit tied in with their ‘Rocks and Soils’ science topic, and our guide for the day answered the children’s questions and told us all about the process of extracting the estimated 42 million tons of limestone held in the quarry. The children spent the afternoon doing follow up work on the stages of quarrying and a great discussion about the pros and cons of limestone extraction in the Mendips.
