Owl Class

Welcome to Owl class page

Our teacher is Mr Wookey and our teaching assistants are Mrs Wills and Mrs Purnell. We are a year 4 class.

This term our topic is 'World War One and Two'.

WW2 Enrichment Week

As part of their WW2 enrichment week, KS2 welcomed two visitors on Wednesday 24 October. 'Wing Commander' Bould brought his Bedford truck into school and told us all about his vehicles involvement in the conflict; and the children also had the opportunity to interview local resident Jean Hamlyn, who recanted her memories of being a child during the war, as well as her experiences of taking in evacuees. On Tuesday 23 October KS2 had a make do and mend session, sewing Christmas decorations Thank you to all our visitors this week for their involvement in our topic.

KS2 enjoyed a wonderful trip to Nothe Fort in Weymouth as part of their WW2 topic. The children took part in wartime school work, shopping, housework, air raid practice and a look at Weymouth at war. The terrific weather meant all the groups could also explore the defences of the fort including the anti-aircraft battery. Many thanks to all those who helped make this trip possible, including the parent helpers who gave up their time to assist in making the day, and the journey, run so smoothly.

Art Explosion Day

On Friday 26 October all the children in the school took part in an 'Art Explosion Day' with a remembrance poppy theme. The results can be viewed in the school lobby and at the Isle of Wedmore Remembers Exhibition running in Wedmore Village Hall between 6 November and 11 November.

Remembrance Service 2018

Owl class took part in the Remembrance service held at St Marys Church in Wedmore on Monday 12 November. The children performed a moving tribute of 'The Fallen', to honour those who died 100 years ago in the First World War, and laid a wreath on the memorial outside.

Author Visit

Following our recent visit from Ross Montgomery during Book week, Becca wrote him a letter with questions ranging from, 'How old is your cat?', 'How do you write your stories?' to 'What inspired you to become a writer?' Ross kindly replied this week and this is a copy of his letter to Becca.
