Welcome to the Nursery, the first stage of Wedmore First School Academy.
Our aim is to make children feel nurtured as well as stimulated in a warm and friendly environment in which learning through play is the cornerstone of our ethos.
We offer a warm, calming environment within our own building. Our outdoor environment provides both a hard-standing and a natural area, where children can enjoy a range of physical, creative, and sensory activities. We make the most of our outdoor area and go outside everyday as we understand that a lot of children learn better in an outdoor environment and that all children’s wellbeing benefits from being outdoors. Our Nursery offers lots of opportunities for children to explore, investigate, and develop their creativity within a calming learning environment. We ensure that every day we provide a range of exciting activities that follow the early years foundation stage, based on the children’s interests and developmental needs.

Learning Environment
When planning activities, we make sure that they stimulate and encourage learning whilst being age appropriate and fun. Running alongside our daily planning we have a half termly focus, so we can widen the children’s learning. We also have a ‘book of the week’ that compliments our half term focus. During each session we make sure there is a balance between adult and child led activities.
We use Tapestry, which is our online observational tool. We use this to communicate with you and it allows us to monitor the children’s development to make sure they are reaching their full potential.
We work closely with Wedmore First School Academy and as such we work together with the reception class on projects such as a half termly topic afternoons and our early years nativity. We also have use of the amenities within the school, this allows us to run sessions on music and movement, team games, and PE. We also use the large outdoor spaces and use our bikes and ride on toys on the school playground. This prepares your child for a smoother transition into the main school as they become familiar with the school environment and facilities.
Session Times
We are open 50 weeks a year during the school half terms, Easter holidays and summer. We close for 2 weeks at Christmas, all bank holidays and INSET days.

Please note, we currently close at 3:15pm on Tuesdays and Fridays. We recommend that children attend at least two sessions per week.
Transitions
We will work closely with you to settle your child into nursery, each child is offered 2 settling in sessions.
Support is also available for children and parents during the transition into reception classes, we prepare the children for this transition. The school offers new parents meetings and settling in sessions before the end of the summer term as your child is preparing to move up to the reception class in the September.
All children’s needs will be met, if required extra support will be made available where possible to make sure they have a smooth transition. We work closely with the Reception team and school SENDCo.
Meals and Snacks
We offer two snacks each day, one mid morning and another for the children who are booked in for the late session. These are included within the fees.
The school kitchen offer a great lunch menu that can be pre-ordered through our online ordering system, Parentpay. Nursery join the school children in the main hall at lunchtime which is a unique opportunity for children to see their siblings and also feel part of the school community.
